Job Summary:
Zymo Research is looking for a highly motivated summer Cybersecurity Full Stack Developer Intern who can help develop and protect our web applications from the ground up. You’ll collaborate with our software development teams to build secure front-end and back-end solutions, ensuring our applications meet top security standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop Secure Web Applications
- Write and maintain front-end code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) as well as back-end logic (in languages like Python, Node.js, or similar) with a focus on security best practices.
- Integrate APIs and databases, ensuring data is handled securely.
2. Identify & Mitigate Vulnerabilities
- Conduct basic security assessments (e.g., OWASP Top 10 checks) on both client-side and server-side components.
- Collaborate with security experts to implement fixes for any discovered vulnerabilities.
3. Implement Authentication & Authorization
- Set up secure user authentication flows using modern protocols (OAuth, JWT) and best practices (multi-factor auth).
- Manage user roles/permissions and ensure data privacy compliance.
4. Document & Communicate
- Maintain clear documentation of your code, design decisions, and security checks.
- Present findings to the team, explaining both technical and security considerations in a straightforward way.
Cybersecurity & Full Stack Skills:
- Front-End Development: Comfortable with HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+). Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular is a plus.
- Back-End Development: Experience in Python, Node.js, or other server-side languages. Knowledge of RESTful API design.
- Database Knowledge: Understanding of SQL (MySQL/PostgreSQL) or NoSQL (MongoDB) databases, with a focus on secure queries and data handling.
- Security Best Practices: Basic familiarity with OWASP Top 10, secure coding principles, and encryption/hashing fundamentals (AES, RSA, SHA).
- Authentication/Authorization: Exposure to sessions, tokens (JWT), OAuth flows, and multi-factor authentication.
Education and Experience:
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of full stack web development concepts, from front-end design to server-side logic.
- Interest in cybersecurity, with a desire to learn more about threat analysis and secure coding.
- Strong communication skills for clear technical explanations.
- Attention to detail in code quality, documentation, and security considerations.

Compensation:
The estimated base compensation range for this position is $20/hour at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
