Research Intern, Microbiome

Job Summary:

Zymo Research is seeking a highly motivated Research Intern to join our dynamic Microbiomics team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in exploring cutting-edge methods and technologies and applications in the fields of microbiome research and Next Generation Sequencing.

As a Research Intern, you will be mentored by industry veterans from our Microbiomics R&D group. The qualified individual will be responsible for initiating and completing an assigned project throughout the duration of the internship. In this role, you will work collaboratively with other team members to design and execute proof of principle studies.

The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated learner, an effective team player, and possess a strong interest in learning about microbiology, microbiomics, and next generation sequencing. The successful candidate should also have experience in microbiology and molecular biology laboratory techniques.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Independently conduct scientific experiments for product development, performance troubleshooting, and protocol optimization.
• Perform microbial cell culturing, basic microscopy, nucleic acid purification, and other experiments as assigned.
• Assist with data collection and data interpretation
• Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation
• Review, summarize and apply relevant literature and technical documentation as needed

Education and Experience:

• Working towards, or having completed, a BS or MS in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related field. Preferably junior or senior standing at an accredited university. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
• Basic laboratory skills, preferably nucleic acid purification, microbial culturing and plating, basic microscopy etc.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Compensation:

The estimated base compensation range for this position is $20/hour at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
