Job Summary:
Zymo Research is seeking a highly motivated Research Intern to join our dynamic Microbiomics team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in exploring cutting-edge technologies and applications in the fields of microbiome Next Generation Sequencing and research.
As a Bioinformatics Intern, you will be mentored by industry veterans from our Microbiomics R&D group. The qualified individual will be responsible for initiating and completing assigned tasks throughout the duration of the internship. In this role, you will work collaboratively with other team members to design and execute infrastructures for a developing bioinformatics product.
The ideal candidate should be flexible, an effective team player, and possess a strong interest in learning about bioinformatic applications for microbiomics and next generation sequencing. The successful candidate should also have some experience in microbiology and fundamental molecular biology laboratory processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the curation of human microbiome data studies by finding, organizing, and independently processing them through a standardized workflow.
- Work collaboratively in a team-based environment to provide feedback and recommendations for project advancement.
- Assist with creating visual representations and user stories for platform features.
- Review, summarize, and apply relevant literature to project goals as needed.
- Aid in the writing and summarization process of project goals to outside parties.
Education and Experience:
- Working towards, or having completed, a BS or MS in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related field with an interest in Bioinformatics. Preferably junior or senior standing at an accredited university, with some bioinformatics application experience. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
- Basic understanding of microbiome research processes and the application of Next Generation Sequencing fundamentals.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Compensation:
The estimated base compensation range for this position is $20/hour at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
