Resources
Q1: I wiped and didn’t see much fecal material on the collection strip, is that okay?
Yes, that is okay. Analysis can be performed with small amounts of fecal material.
Q2: Can I wipe with normal toilet paper first?
No. The Bunny Wipe should be used first before normal toilet paper. After wiping with the Bunny Wipe, normal toilet paper can then be used.
Q3: Is the wipe safe to flush?
Yes. The wipe is completely water soluble and can be flushed safely.
Q4: Is it ok to collect a stool sample if I have diarrhea or constipation?
Yes. A sample can be collected in such cases.
Q5: Do I need to refrigerate or freeze my sample after collection?
No. The DNA/RNA Shield reagent stabilizes the sample at room temperature.
Q6: I accidentally dropped my wipe in the toilet before collecting a sample, can I still use it?
No. The wipe should NOT be used in such cases.
Q7: Can I complete the test if I have rectal bleeding, bleeding hemorrhoids or my period?
Yes. The microbiome of the sample can still be analyzed even if blood is present.
Q8: Is DNA/RNA ShieldTM compatible with bleach (sodium hypochlorite)?
Avoid mixing the reagent and bleach (sodium hypochlorite) or other strong oxidizing agents and acids. Clean up any accidental spills with water first.
Q9: Can I still use DNA/RNA Shield if a precipitate has formed?
This can happen on occasion due to transport or storage at lower temperatures. The reagent functionality is not affected; however, the precipitate can be resolved by heating the reagent to >37 °C.
